Stems in this old-fashioned variety are purple, with leaves being a deep gray-green. Very tender.  Plant about 3 weeks or so before first fall frost date.  Can be planted in early spring. Sow seeds ½-1” deep and 1-2” apart. Thin plants to 8-10” apart. Harvest by clipping individual leaves. Kale is very hardy and actually improves after a frost.  50 days
